My husband gave me this book for Christmas. I read it over a few days.It reminded me of another book I read not too long ago called The Known World, also about slavery, freedmen, slave stealers and dealers. It was an interesting aspect that Song Yet Sung took place on the Eastern Shore (I noticed he did not capitalize this place name, as we do)and the story is truly absorbing and the characters rich and real. Thanks for having this site.

I am reading the book now and as a fellow Marylander I am also learning more about the Eastern Shore. Thanks for confirming the aspects that are truly based in history. I am searching for a detailed map of the time now. James McBride is an excellent story teller so I knew this book would be a great choice for this year's One Maryland, One Book.

I find that whoever narrates an audio book has a huge impact on how I feel about the book. It's a much different experience than reading the book. But you've peaked my interest about this homegrown tale.
